RedCAT: LinkedIn Dashboard

The client was looking for a way to replace two existing tools (Power BI and Tableau) with something that delivered real-time data visualization with fine grain, and dynamic access controls.

I took lead development of it with 2 other developers that came and went as their other responsibilities let them.

It was delivered on time, with a compressed timeline.  The dashboards were so well received, the users are clamoring for more, and it inspired new features and additional functionality requests. The client also wanted to expand access to more roles, and broaden the dataset.

The dashboards themselves where new for the existing legacy tool.  They did not overwrite existing code, but built new PSR-1 code that allowed for ease of IDE tracing, aliased legacy functionality, and provided centralized methods, opened up the ability to centralize calculations and algorithms.

Other features:

  • Extendable classes and methods allowed for a variety of charts, graphs, and tables to be generated with built in excel download-ability.
  • Filters that persisted between dashboards and page loads
  • Charts and graphs that could "drill down" to finer grained information
  • Performance streamlining to deal with complicated data and calculations
  • Highcharts
  • Datatables
  • Used latest libraries for security and functionality
  • Built to use SPA, but has permanent link ability to share or bookmark URLs
